Where did ghost stories begin?

Where did ghost stories begin?
Was it in the anticipation that you might walk into the room?

Early 2025

In this series, haunting is a central theme, exploring what it means to be haunted by memory and questioning how memory can ever be fully separate from reality. Taking this a step further, the work considers what happens when we are confronted or haunted within our dreams.

Realizing a tendency to overwork my paintings, I spent an entire semester working without the use of reference photos. While some exceptions were made, the majority of the work began with automatic drawing techniques to create an abundance of experimental sketches, which then influenced fast-paced acrylic paintings.

Although these works may appear less "resolved," they represent a more intuitive exploration. Re-emerging themes and narratives from personal dreams moved to the forefront of the practice. By working at such a rapid pace, I experimented with a variety of techniques and became more attuned to how paint moves and settles on the canvas. This process taught me to let go of rigid control and embrace the uncertainty of the outcome.
